NEW ORLEANS – It is with great pleasure and heartfelt gratitude that the MotherShip Foundation announces the 7th Annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festival that will be held May 18-20, 2012 on the banks of historic and beautiful Bayou St. John. Over the last six years, Bayou Boogaloo has experienced tremendous growth. 2011 was a milestone year for what has quickly become on the South Louisiana’s signature cultural celebrations. Last year as New Orleans celebrated the annual Festival over 25,000 locals and visitors reveled in music from three stages, dined on delicious food, sampled unique local culture and enjoyed the Boogaloo Art Market.

In 2011, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo continued its sustainability efforts with help from a handful of dedicated neighbors, the Faubourg St. John Neighborhood Association, LSU AG Center, and funded by a Coypu Foundation grant. Volunteers planted one thousand (1000) plugs of the marsh grass Spartina Alternaflora and twelve hundred (1200) irises along the bayou’s western bank that are expected to bloom next spring for the 7^th Annual Bayou Boogaloo Festival. As always the Festival is a family-friendly event with a kid’s stage, along with games and activities for children. Attendees can partake in delicious food, spirits and libations, listen to great local music, and enjoy the very best art that New Orleans has to offer.

The Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festival is hosted by the MotherShip Foundation, a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to encouraging social change by bringing forth a higher quality of life for all Louisiana and New Orleans residents through the promotion of arts, culture, and recreation. We are seeking partners who will unite with us and help continue this tradition. 5th Annual Bayou Boogaloo Biggest & Best Yet!

Festival’s 6th Year Scheduled for May 20 – 22, 2011

NEW ORLEANS, LA (June 29, 2010) – The much-beloved Mid City Bayou Boogaloo celebrated it’s fifth annual festival with more music, larger crowds and a rubber duck derby to become the festival’s most successful—and generous—year-to-date.

Over 24,000 gathered along the Banks of Bayou St. John to celebrate New Orleans’ unique music, food and art. Along with the usual array of talent and festival fare, the 5th Boogaloo featured a rubber duck derby benefiting Second Harvest. Over 6,000 ducks “raced” across the Bayou (propelled by the New Orleans Fire Department) and over $25,000.00 was raised for Second Harvest.

Jared Zeller, festival founder and Executive Director of the Mothership Foundation (the entity behind the festival), says, “In this unique times, New Orleanians must come together for the benefit of the common good. Bayou Boogaloo has always been a positive force in the community, and now is no different.”

In addition to Second Harvest, Mothership Foundation efforts also resulted in $3,000.00 for the 3 Ring Circus Arts Education Center (the beneficiary of the festival’s art market) as well as the New Iberia Coke Fund. In addition, the Mid-City Neighborhood Association, Faubourg St. John Association and Parkview Neighborhood Association are all slated to receive funds generated from the festival.

When asked his thoughts on this year’s festival, Zeller says, “Every year just keeps getting better and better.”

It is with great pleasure and heartfelt gratitude that we announce the 5th Annual Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo Festival that will be held May 21-23, 2010 on the banks of historic and beautiful Bayou St. John. Over the last four years, our event has experienced tremendous growth. 2009 was a milestone year for what has quickly become on the South Louisiana’s signature cultural celebrations. Last year as New Orleans celebrated our annual Festival over 20,000 locals and visitors reveled in music from three stages, dined on delicious food, sampled our unique local culture and enjoyed an art market projecting continued long term growth as we produce this year’s last major music and art event before the long dog days of summer set in.

In 2009, the Mid-City Bayou Boogaloo stepped up its sustainability measures by incorporating Solar powered stages, Bio-Diesel generators, locally grown and organic foods, a comprehensive recycling program and sustainable living and coastal restoration education. As always the Festival is a family-friendly event with a kid’s stage, along with games and activities for children. Attendees can partake in delicious food, spirits and libations, listen to great local music, and enjoy the very best art that New Orleans has to offer.
